The great Shin Cup search continues…

Here is a photo of a Nong Shim Shin Cup, last seen on the shelves of our local Sainsbury’s on Tottenham Court Road back in August 2005. If anyone has any information on the where abouts of this tasty noodle based snack (and no don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a Pot Noodle) then please get in touch.

Hi, I too have been desperately searching for somewhere that sells shin cups, after i became hooked on the super spicy hot ones(which i found was also a great way of stopping you from being sick after drinking too much), then i came across this
http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2005/jun/nongshim
I became addicted to shin cups when I lived in south Korea for a year. When I came home to Wales I was pleased to find that they sold them in Tesco, but lately I havent been able to get any, what’s going on I’m desperate for one
You used to be able to buy them online via Amazon.com (I bought a MASSIVE order the end of last year (around 50) which I consumed in a silly amount of time, (about a month, (plus, as soon as you introduce them to friends….) hence the reason I haven’t tried to place a new order til now, (that and they took 6 weeks to arrive)AND THEY NO LONGER DELIVER TO THE U.K!!!!! (I think, you’s should still try it anyway) Good to see I’m not alone in my quest for the Shin cup though!!!!!!!
GUESS WHAT FOLKS!!!!!! RESULT (I’m GOOD at this!!!!) You can buy them online from http://www.atkinsandpotts.co.uk/prod_cat.php?cat=11&name=Oriental%20and%20Asian
hey. I lived in s.korea for 2 years - adore these noodles. anyone living in London can find them sold by the box in any of the 3 supermarkets in China Town. Also see Korea Town, Kingston for cheaper bulk buy.
also - the price at the site mentioned above is rediculous. In china town, in a box of 22 they come to 65p each.
Yep, thats where i found them, in Londons China Town. In a massive box downstairs in one of the Korean supermarkets.
Looking at the comments my efforts to make my own version of the Shin Cup are redundant because let’s face it you can’t beat the real thing!
However if you are having trouble finding a supplier, check out my page that has details of how to make a pot noodle that is similar to the Shin Cup, hard to tell how similar as it’s been some time since I tasted one
http://dev.takingiteasy.co.uk/talk/shincup.aspx is the link. It’s part of a redesigned site that isn’t complete so the other pages aren’t done yet but the Shin Cup page is! Oh and I’ve only just set-up dev.takingiteasy.co.uk so it might not be accessible for another 24 hours or so.
It’s surprising just how many people love this tasty snack, good to feel I’m not the only one who appreciates it.
Looks my personal quest is over ! it’s been too long : )
Shin cup have been banned in the UK as the first reply has mentioned, but the importer of these brilliant noodles - G. Costa - have told me that they hope to start importing again around Sep 2006 after changes made to the production process in Korea.
I have seen the odd one on ebay - just type in Nong shim and sometimes there is the odd one for sale!
Wing Yip, the chinese oriental food specialists with outlets in Manchester, Croydon etc. stock them (and the complete Nong Shim range).
Bought some there a couple of weeks ago.
Let’s hope the food gestapo havn’t found them yet!!!!!! They probably scan sites like this as a matter of course!!!!!!!!!!
go to new malden in surrey they sell the everywere in new malden fo 40p i littrally just finished eating one and ive got loads downstairs their the best
I came here in desperation searching for Shin Cup noodles as I am going on a crash diet in the New Year and these are the most fantastic things for losing weight in my experience. The bulk is enough to make you feel full and chilli is an appetite supressant.
Now as a bonus I find out that my excess blubber simply gets “nuked” away!
Have ordered 24 from the link given and eagerly await their arrival- Shin Cup are without doubt the tastiest noodle snack ever.
Shin Cups are great, I just got back from Canada where you can get em anywhere, now in Bath I haven’t found em yet. The big bowl one you get in north America don’t seem to be sold here either. Oh well. Have to get em off the link.
I first got into these noodles through some korean guys at my boarding school. They were always munching them! (They are seriously good on toast by the way!!) Oriental supermarkets are the place to go. I know they’re sold in china town in both London and Manchester for a bit cheaper than from the link provided… Good effort on the recipe Ralph, but sadly it doesn’t quite have the ‘nuclear nuance’ that the genuine article possosses!
i haven’t been able to find the beloved Shin Noodles but I did find an alternative at Morrisons - they do a large pot - chicken and green onion of Blue Dragon which are very good - though you do have to add Encona Hot Pepper Sauce and Soya to add some zip.
I too felt very sad when they disappeared from the shelves of Sainsburys. Then on one glorious day I descovered that you can also get these lovely things in the chinese shop in Brighton if that’s any help to anyone.
The chinese shop in Brighton is called “Yum Yum”. What a wicked name! It’s down the Brighton lanes to the east right at the end on the left near City College Brighton.
Hope that helps someone.
Spme bad news from Atkins & Potts, about a week after I placed another order for 48 Shin Cups….
“Many thanks for your recent order, unfortunately this product is know no
longer available. A full refund will be given back to your card, many
apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Kind Regards
Jo Atkins”
Gonna try Croydon Wing Yip I suppose, but it’s a long way from me (East Kent). gotta get some somewhere though….
“
Heh, went to Chinatown today and bought four boxes from a Korean supermarket in Lisle Street called “See Woo” for a rather excellent £20.60. Considering A&P were going to charge £26.50 for TWO boxes, that’s a bit of a bargain- although I had to do a 150 mile round trip to get them.
Still, took the kids around the (somewhat disappointing) London Dungeon while we were in London.
So that’s me in Shin Cup heaven for a month or so. I’m sure they must have heroin in them, they’re that addictive!
SPOTTED!!! Just noticed this on Ebay Item# 280090479988 Somebody is selling a Shin Cup
Just arrived back in UK after five years in HK where I practically lived on these. Glad to hear I am not the only one who craves the SHIN!
I KNOW WHERE YOU CAN GET SOME!!
Leather lane / Farringdon! (Just off clerkenwll road)
about half way down there is a small miscelaneous grocery store. the shopkeep always wears white overalls (like a butcher!) and has a smnall box of change (no proper till!)
sorry i cant be more specific!
i used to love SPICY SHIN CUP when i worked round here. Not been there in a while though…….but may have to go look….please reply if you find the place and he has stock!
FOUND SOME!!!
Covent Garden - Endell Street. Half way down there is a Sushi Kiosk. They sell them there for 99p.
I’ve literally just eaten one.
They’re amazingly addictive and I don’t know anyone who’s had one that isn’t hooked; Bug Powder Dust?
Fully recommend popping into Coffee Cake and Kink whilst you’re there, too.
I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER GREAT SUPPLIER
After Atkins and Potts stopped supplying Nong Shim cups i whent on Ebay and found this supplier
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/yoaxia
This ebay shop is in Germany and i sent email to a lady at this link called Doris asking for postage cost to uk.She emailed me back with the cost for the amount i required so I ordered 4 boxes (48 shin cups) for 63.90 Euros including secure postage and paid via paypal. This in sterling was £43.22 which is cheaper than Atkins and Potts, and not only that but from placing order to recieving the goods took only six days.this has got to be the fastest and cheapest outside the UK .
Give it a try this company is a power seller so dont worry. I was delighted and will be ordering more.
STOP THE PRESS!!!!
Looks like you can get them online here:
http://www.orientalmart.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=357&osCsid=921335172305bf72c0575b96fc44fada
Will cost you £5.50 shipping in UK though! Haven’t tried an order yet but watch this space………
Amazing, I fell in love with these noodles In Ireland, where the local Chinese holesale place stocked them. Have not found them in London yet but wil be chacking out China town as mentioned above. The noodles cakes are tastier than the pot ones.
Given those muddy funsters at orientalmark.co.uk my order. I will have Shin Cups, oh yes…. I will have them.
I found them again!!!!!
I’ve also been searching for them since the disappeared from the shelves of Sainsburys. I came across them on Friday,on a very low shelf in the the basement food store of the Japan centre on Piccadilly.
Big thanks to Vince, I’ll be visiting See Woo in chinatown on my way home from work tomorrow.
Hey, just joined the search after many many months shin cup free….have ordered at oriental mart, has anyone else had any joy with them? I should be “fully shin cupped up” on tuesday, either that or my credit card details will be winging their way to the middle east as we speak. I will keep everyone informed. D
I had completely forgotten about these since Sainsbury stopped them a few years ago.
I picked up 2 x 144g ones from Thaismile supermarket in Chiswick yesterday with some other stuff. Was not until I got home that I realised what I had doh!
Importer is marked as Korea Foods Ltd, New Malden, Surrey, 02089492238
Also ordered from Oriental Mart, deliver in 2 days, and the cheapest so fa I have ever paid for 24 (£17) Over the moon, as I had not been able to get any for approximately a year and a half!!!!!!!!!!
honestly you have to try orientalmart.co.uk Plenty of shin cups. Good price too!!
Looking for some where in Ireland that stock these noodles. I fell in love with them 3 years ago while backpacking around New Zealand. I recently traveled to Japan and acquired a taste for them again I brought some home in my bag but I’m running low fast. Help!
They also sell these in Lung Wah Chong oriental supermarket in Oxford city centre!! They are great. **EDIT: Hereis their site: http://www.lungwahchong.com/
The Chinese sipermarket in Cardiff is the only place I can find them!
Man I LOVE Shin Cups!, by FAR the best instant noodles I ever tasted.
They make all other instant noodles pail into insignificance. It was only after some two years since they disappeared from UK shelves that I finally got round to investigating what happened via the net last week.
Irradiated ingredients huh?
I guess it all comes down to how much of the flavour sachet you add. Oriental Mart seems the way to go - 50p per cup! Sweet. I’m ordering a batch tonight!
I can introduce my girlfriend to them. I can’t wait to cram my gullet w/ them once more.
Hot is the best flavour, but I also like the ‘Chicken’, ‘Seafood’ and ‘Kimchi’ cups.
Perfect fuel for extended video game sessions.
GUYS CHECK IT-
I Just got my box of 12 from oriental mart- I’m chowin down now on my second cup! Damn,- this has been two years comin, It tastes soooo GOOOODD!!!
I think I may have messed the inside of my pants
…
I just checked that Oriental Mart but didn’t come across them. Are they still for sale there or am I just looking too hard?
Okay, it was a little weird, but when I could find the Shin Cup, I bought the packet stuff which seems to be the same thing but in packet form. Then just now, a few hours later, the cup appearef out of no where. Though I do wish now I hadn’t bought 20 of the packet stuff -___-;;
Thanks Nick! You’re tops!
Shin Cups are available at most Asian outlets. I don’t know if they have different laws or are just breaking the law
But you can get them fairly easily. Although I didn’t know they did different flavours. Shin Cups are the ultimate pot-based noodles. Even Bombay Badboys pail into insignificance.
I can still get them in chinatown glasgow,
can also get them in charminster bournemouth (many local oriental shops stock them)
I got freinds that can get them around england too, didn’t realise there was a national following
It isn’t just me… woohoo my 2 favorite noodle cups, Shin and Kimchi both disappeared without warning, leaving me in snackpot limbo.
Well It looks like I will be buying a load from oriental mart, but I am also going to have a word with my local Thai marketstall, to see if they can source them (Save on the postage)
Now that Nong Shim have that Giant US plant, maybe the FSA might revoke that silly irradiated food labelling cocktardery, and we can once again bask in Shin Cup and Kimch Bigbowl nose runningly good noodleness.
and on the 6th day God created Ramen
Have now found cups and big bowl shin, alive and well and excellently priced 55p cup 85p bowl in Newcastle, also has other nong shim products kimchi bowls chappegetti (however you spell it) ad the likes, oh Pack Shin is 45p a pack.
Woohoo, Iwill be going back up next week, to buy a box, and also some other ramens and stocks and stuff.
You can buy them individually and in bulk at Oriental City supermarket in Edgware, Colindale. In addition they have an amazing selection of other noodle soups and Oriental groceries. There is a Food Court, Restaurants and other shops. It is an amazing place, unfortunately the place is closing down as the owner sold the land to B&Q and housing development, but on the plus you have until May 2008

Oriental mart has run dry! Nooooo!
back in OrientalMart.co.uk, yippeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wanted to say God bless whoever posted the link to ORIENTALMART.CO.UK - we’ve been looking for ages and thought we might be the only ones.
Yippeee! have just ordered a s**tload.
Irradiated - so what?
Hey guys, just checked back on this blog.
The situation with oriental mart (as I was informed when I picked up my box of 12 cups two months back) is that the hot and spicey cups are hard to get hold of.
Don’t know if they still have them in that Nottingham store, but I’m thinkin most china town marts will stock em.
Thats what I’m pinning my hopes on anyway when I visit china town in manchester soon.
This ban on the cups sure is a royal pain in the rectum.
Also I thought it would be cool if someone set up a fan forum so we could share eating/buying experiences.
Very much available in China town in London
If your in London, you can get shin cups and others from the range at the Portland Street newsagent which is 1/2 way up Portland Street off Oxford Street. Price is currently 99p… Enjoy :p (im eating one now as i type)
Oh my god its been far too long, any idea if any online sources have the shrimp/prawn one? I used to love that flavour.
There’s quickimart in Manchester Chinatown that stocks the hot and spicy variety.
Videogames plus Nong Shim Raymen= Good times!
Oh my god, i’ve been without the shin goodness for about 2 years now, i’d tried everything, making my own etc. then took my search to the web when i couldn’t take it no more, talk about goin snackpot cold turky. And here, i find orientalmart.co.uk ,Irradiated? who the hell gives a sh*t, i’ve just ordered me a load. Peace.
Well certainly seems like these things are popular… didn’t realise back when I posted this that there was some many others deprived of their goodness.
As for myself I’ve found my local supply at the Center Point Food Store on St Giles High St .
Also any Facebookers out there, I’ve set a I love Shin Cup group up so hopefully see you there!!
I have been told they’re back in stock and will be forever!! http://www.orientalmart.co.uk
http://www.waiyeehong.com/
has anyone tried these guys before? they have a bunch of other noodles that I want to try, but I haven’t shopped with them before…
They’re on offer at orientalmart at the moment.
Just bough 24 6 packs of Shin Raymen
Make sure to bulk buy as the postage and packaging is expensive otherwise!
What’s happening homies, thought I’d pop in and see how ya all doin.
Not had any Nong Shim in a while. I started a kick ass new job and that, along playing out with my pals has prevented me from visiting Chinatown for some months.
You can tuck the money into the top of my Spidey-pance, but don’t slap my butt.
Hy!
Go to Trieu Asia Shop in Leonding Parkpassage in Austria and you’ll be able to buy Shin Cups and every other soup you want! This store’s just great. You can buy everything, thats comes in your mind when you think about asian food! Springrolls, liquor, crab crackers, soups, sauces, EVERYTHING (I go crazy)!
hope i could help, if you want one, send me an email and i’ll send it per mail (real mail, you know, post, the yellow cars (post.at)) (for free!)
kurt.hoeblinger@gmail.com
see ya!
I was at a friends house recently and while rooting in her cupboards I found 3 shin cups! When I asked if I could have one she said she did not like them (!) so I got 3 cups for free!
Bonus.
I love Shin Cups, you can buy large and small ones from a Korean / Japanese deli in Cathays Cardiff. I went to Korea recently and I’m not a proud owner of some Shin Cup socks!
No wonder no one has been able to find them!
UK Ban
Nong Shim Shin Cup Noodles (along with other Nong Shim Pot Noodle products in the “Oolongmen” range including Beef, Chicken, Seafood and Kimchi flavours) were withdrawn from sale in the UK by their importer G. Costa & Company Ltd in 2005 due to the undeclared presence of irradiated ingredients.[3]
As of 2008, imports of Shin Cup noodles into the UK have been re-established.
Thanks so much for the link to oriental mart guys!
I just ordered my first batch of Shin Cups in some 3 years.
I can’t wait to have them again, I remember them as be being super spicy!
Found some shin cups in an oriental shop in York (near to the Ramada Encore Hotel). Great !!
We use to sell these wonderful noodles, but had to stop due to the undeclared ingredients (irradiated prawns). I still eat them most weeks, so someone has different rules to us, but hey I still buy them. They are availble from Korea Foods on the A3 in New Malden - not the easiest palce to fine.
